Grasping beads

I finally got round to making some grasping beads today.  It's a little early for Henry (6 weeks) but there is no harm in being prepared!

These beads are Korean boxwood, bought from a lovely little Parisian beaderie [is that a word??], they are non toxic (of course) and are individually strung and tied on natural suede.

Grasping beads are given to babies at around 3 months old at a time when they begin to show interest in using their hands.  The design of the grasping beads is such that babies really enjoy the tactile experience which stimulates brain development and concentration.  Using these contrasting natural materials is a wonderful introduction to objects and much more interesting than a brightly coloured lump of plastic.  Later on these beads can be used for teething too.

I just like their simplicity.

  2. Hi there,
These are 20mm in diameter but they also work well with beads of 25mm (1 inch).
