Baby's first social smile
Henry is 12 weeks now but at around 10 weeks old he really started to smile a lot. Here he is with Farfar returning a smile from his ever so slushy mama.
Most babies smile before this, even at just a few weeks old but a social smile is very different to a spontaneous smile. A social smile is reciprocal, meaning your baby smiles in response to someone else's smile. It's a sign that several different parts of the brain are maturing. It says he's able to see short distances, make sense of an object (in this case a smiling face), and produce his own smile in return.
Social smiles are great for bonding, since it's one of the first forms of communication between parent and child but even better than that is that they are great for taking photos!
