The best 2 hours of his life

Freddy (28 months) has been waiting for this moment with great excitement ever since we bought him a wooden balance bike several months ago.

We knew he was ready to try the bike but we didn't appreciate that he would not be tall enough to use it.

But finally the day came last week (I'm sure it was after a growth spurt) when he could finally reach the floor whilst sitting on it.
That called for a celebration so we hot footed it into the forest to try it out.....
He got it straight away! It was as if the months of staring at it had somehow prepared him for this moment.
He went up and down a hill over and over again pausing only to wade into a muddy puddle.
And then as quickly as it had started it was over.
Such a roller coaster of emotions on that day.

Here's a little video just before the bike broke....

  2. Oh no. Hope the bike can be fixed/replaced.

We want to get one of those for our 33 month old but she's still too short for one!

    1. Hi Hazel,
Actually I think it would still be too big for Freddy too if we hadn't of modified it as well. My husband drilled two new holes so that the seat is lower (further down the frame). If you are interested in giving it a try for your little girl I'll happily send a photo showing what we did.

  3. Freddy blir mer och mer lik Mattias vad det gäller saker som han gör. Jag minns att min lillebror ofta var lerig och tyckte mycket om att cykla i skogen.

  4. Glad you were able to fix the bike, Freddy did look like he was having the most wonderful time. And all the glorious mud! I would love a little balance bike for my little Jack but he's not quite ready for it yet. He has a little three-wheeled scooter which he is loving.

    1. Oh yes those scooters are great aren't they! Freddy loves his transportation of any kind at all.

  5. I know this is an old post, but perhaps my comment could help someone. We got our daughter a metal balance bike instead of the wooden one. No fear of it breaking, it is very sturdy and the seat is adjustable so she could touch the floor at just 18 months old. There are many brands out there. We have the Strider and we love it!
